Luis Alberto Rodríguez Nieves, 25 years old, is a graduate of the School of Social Communication in the UCAB, with a minor in Audiovisual, started studies in 2010 and completed them in 2015. He graduated in April 2016. He is currently working as a freelance in the area of photography, since the situation in Venezuela led the company in which he worked, TodoTicket, to carry out a reduction in personnel.
I always wished to study at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) or at the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), but I never got to take the admission test at the UCV and I stayed in the UCAB, of which I learned through an ad in a newspaper while in high school, and in which my mom motivated me to enroll in.
What convinced me in the end to study at the UCAB was its prestige and that I knew, even then, that people come out with quality; in addition to the learning programs offered by the university.
I chose to study Social Communication because it is something that always caught my attention, when I studied in elementary school I used to participate in debates, radio programs; and my main interest was always the Audiovisual part.
During his time at UCAB, Luis was part of the founding group of Social Communication Volunteering, Volcos UCAB.
Volcos came about thanks to my group of friends, mainly Nathaly Varela and Pily Méndez, who motivated us to be part of this project.
What we wanted was to help the community, to do our bit to improve this country, since we should never lose hope for a better future.
Thanks to this and other experiences, I now see those friends as my brothers.
It is a great pride to know that this small contribution that we made has become more, and has been of great help to the communities of Antimano, Carapita, La Vega and Mamera.
Luis received a work for scholarship aid from his third semester till he finished his studies at the UCAB.
At first, being in a a work for a scholarship program was a bit hard for me because I was not prepared to balance work and studies; But the economic situation in my home was not the most optimal to maintain the cost of the career, since at that time, the only one who worked in my family was my father, who, with great effort, managed to pay the first semesters.
It is thanks to a neighbor who works at the UCAB, Mary Carmen Navarro, who offers me to be a work for scholarship at the university in the AB Ediciones office. And that was an opportunity that I took advantage of, because although it had nothing to do with what I was studying, it taught me what a work environment is, I met new and wonderful people, and to know how to move in different areas.
All this helped me to become a better human being, to be a better person.
The UCAB became my second home; it is a second family, always present in my heart. Returning to the UCAB is entering a bubble where you feel comfortable, where your family is.
Luis Rodríguez is a respected and beloved young man at the university, who has a great vocation for helping others.
As a country we are going through a difficult transition process, where the economic capacities for many are not the most optimal; However, we must motivate those who want to study to keep fighting for Venezuela and stick up for it.
Education in Venezuela is one of the best, because I had the opportunity to have great teachers as are: María Soledad, Jorge Ezenarro, Francisco Coello, Elisa Martinez and many others, because they are people who motivate you to move forward, to keep fighting for what you want.
We must not give up on sowing hope in young people, in contributing to their personal growth. To sow a seed in someone today is to reap great benefits in the future. We must continue to spread hope, love, peace, faith, wisdom and temperance, because one day we will see the good results.
Those of us who have scholarships are extremely grateful, because it is part of a life of teachings. Today we continue to persevere and in doing so we give faith that what has been sown in us is reaching good results.
