Andrea Guedez is a venezuelan 24 years old young woman, graduated from the Social Communication School, major in Advertizing, of Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB) She started her studies in 2012 and finished school in 2018. She is currently working in the area of digital communication and events planning of a law firm. She is also working hard in the project “Nutriendo el Futuro (Nourishing the Future)” which is an initiative for community kitchens for children in the rural area of the Hatillo Municipality since she has always been passionate about social issues.

While she was a senior at high school, she did in internship at the Hot 94FM radio station and since then she knew that she wanted to study Social Communication.  At first she wanted to attend Monteavila University but she later chose UCAB because of a vocational speech she witnessed at school. She comments that she just loved the way university life was described since she highly values extracurricular activities.

During her years as a student, Andrea participated in many groups of the University. She was part of the founding members of the UCAB Cabinet competition; participated in the Social Communication Volunteer group VOLCOS and occupied several positions within the Social Communication Students Center  (CECOSO) beginning with events planning to then becoming President of the same; she was student representative and was part of the school and university counsel board. In other words, for Andrea, the student movement was highly important at that point in her career because it allowed her to be recognized and participate in activities both in the University and out. She comments:

You must meet with political parties, entrepreneurs, the church… It is oriented towards the country, something that I liked very much.

Andrea considers that education is one of the most important aspects, which is why she knows that to try to support and promote education is to help in the development of the country.

It is important to try to support the scholarships programs, not just at UCAB but in the education of all levels in Venezuela, since there is no doubt that education equals a better future. When the education door closes the student desertion begins, this goes from schools to universities and this is a problem not just for governments but also for society.

So, to all people who want this youth and this country to have a future, I would tell them to bet on higher education, particularly in the UCAB, which is the best in the country. It is more than enough reason to help so that the people who have the will to continue studying may do so.
